Coaching Story:
I had done a little bit of archery at school but began to take the sport seriously after coming to Edinburgh University in 1999. I have been coached by Alistair ever since. At university I shot recurve initially and ended my university career with a total of 14 British University medals and a second place finish at the British Indoors as well as multiple Scottish caps. After a shoulder injury I swapped from left handed recurve to right handed compound – a surprisingly smooth transition under Alistair’s supervision and I have never looked back. My scores have improved consistently year on year with Alistair’s help in everything from bow set-up, technique, mental approach and strength training. Due to work commitments I don’t get a lot of time to practice and I therefore have to attribute all my success in the sport to the coaching I have received for the past 13 years. Alistair has a phenomenal ability to focus on (and fix!) each and every problem and 5 minutes with him is worth many hours of frustrating practice.
